Hartmuth and his two girls Iolani and Mareika stayed with me over New Year. We had some great fun together going sailing every day for three days in a row. Maybe the girls didn’t like it that much anymore on the third day but I had a ball.
On the first day we launched at the Jensen Beach Causeway and sailed up the Indian River past the Hutchinson Island power plant and on the way back discovered some nice beaches. On the way up we were running petty much the whole time but had to beat to make it back to the ramp.
The second day we used the boat ramp at Shepards Park and sailed past Southpoint Anchorage up the North Fork all the way to the end reaching both ways in 15 to 20 kt winds. That was a fast ride and kind of exhausting but still beautiful. The girls got tired of the wind after a while and tried to find comfort underneath the fore deck.
The Saint Lucie River was chosen for our last voyage launching at Sandsprit Park. We had to go little ways on the Manatee Pocket to reach the river. Sailing through Hell Gate didn’t pose any problems since we had some SE winds. On this trip there is not much of nature to see only big houses on both shores. Once past the Stuart Causeway the river opens up and we were able to do some long tacks from shore to shore. We were viewing Günter’s apartment at Four Winds from the river and headed back to Sandsprit Park.
Today they went back home to Massachusetts.
