Hurricane Wilma makes me change my plans

Published by under Uncategorized

“The Green Gecko” after hurricane WilmaI was supposed to start work at Mack Sails on Monday October 24 but that’s exactly the time Wilma decided to hit Florida. Doris and Paul advised me to stay in Lacrosse until Wilma is gone.

The other problem was that I left the boat in Hobe Sound and I was afraid it would get hurt. The park manager suggested to fill the boat with water that would take care of it, he had done that in past hurricane situations. At that time I was still not expecting a direct hit. As it turns out the path of the hurricane is just a Toppled trailers in Hobe Sound after hurricane Wilmacouple of miles south of Hobe Sound but there was absolutely no damage to my boat. That water really did the trick because other boats and trailers around it toppled over.

Anyway I arrived in Hobe Sound and will start work tomorrow. No electricity though but the neighbor has a huge generator and he let’s me plug in.

Finding a place in Stuart Florida

Published by under Uncategorized

Twin Rivers trailer park Hobe Sound FloridaThe last 4 days I have spent looking for a trailerpark or campground in Stuart Florida that was close to work and would allow cats. The list was rather short and I had only two places to look at.

Today I went to Stuart to take a look and was supprised how little space they allow for each trailer at the first stop. On the way to the second park I discovered another one in Hobe Sound that looked much nicer then the last and it also had a bunch of boats parked in front of it. I thought that was a good fit since I also had to find a place for “The Green Gecko” my 18′ Interlake that I brought with me today. The people that owned the place seemed rather friendly and didn’t mind the cats either. The price was a little more than the other two places but it was only 5 minutes to work from here. When I mentioned to the manager that I had one more place to look at, he responded that it would be a waste of time. I should have listened because that trailerDowngraded belongings to fit in a 4′x4′ space park was atrocious. So I went back to leave my first month rent, park the boat and take a look at the lot at the very end of the park with only one neighbour to the left and pine woods in the back. Very lovely!

On the way back I also signed up for a unit at a storage place and put away all my belongings in a 4’x4′ locker.

Heading south for a new future

Published by under Uncategorized

At a gas station in GeorgiaYesterday I left Hartsville at around noon and took a break in North Carolina and arrived this evening at my sister Doris in Lacrosse Florida. It was good to arrive to a rather sunny weather and civil temperatures. It was getting cold up north and I often had to turn on the stove at night. The cats were doing great during the trip because they had the trailer for themselves to roam around and not being locked up in a carrier the whole time. I could see them often in the large front window through my rear view mirror. Once we arrived I let them out right away and they had a ball playing tricks on Doris elderly dog Norman.

Cutie Pie and The Green GeckoIn Georgia I took advantage of a truck wash and shined up the Argosy. What a difference! Though some of the roof vents didn’t withstand the powerful stream of the nozzles and we took on quite some water.

Argosy in Lacrosse FloridaIt didn’t take long to level the trailer and hook up water and electricity. What a treat after having to use the generator and lugging all the water for quite some time. The only problem posed some fire ants that found the cat food inside the trailer in no time. Nonetheless I’m very happy to be here though it feels funny at times changing my existence rather drastically.
